A Certificate in Community Health (CCH) worker

The Certificate Course in Community Health (CCH) is a one-year certification program offered by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. This program aims to train skilled health workers to address the healthcare challenges in underserved areas of India. It focuses on equipping individuals with essential knowledge and practical skills in community health, enabling them to provide primary healthcare, create health awareness, and respond effectively in emergency situations.

Certificate in Community Health (CCH) Details

India faces significant challenges in providing proper healthcare, especially in rural and underserved urban areas. Key issues include:

  • Lack of fully developed medical facilities
  • Insufficient doctors to address population density
  • Limited emergency health services, especially during night hours
  • Lack of trained personnel to guide or refer emergency cases to hospitals
  • Challenges in educating communities about family planning, disease prevention (e.g., polio, AIDS), and hygiene

 

CCH Course aims to bridge this healthcare gap by producing healthcare workers who can:

  • Assist in healthcare delivery in rural and urban sectors, hospitals, nursing homes, and health clubs
  • Work as facilitators, spreading awareness about health, hygiene, and disease prevention
  • Provide first aid and emergency treatment
  • Support community health through education and guidance

Certificate in Community Health (CCH) Objectives

Upon completing the CCH program, trainees will acquire:

  • Basic knowledge of human anatomy and physiology
  • Understanding of health, hygiene, and nutrition
  • Knowledge of diseases: Communicable, non-communicable, and lifestyle diseases, including emergency measures and disease prevention
  • Practical skills: First aid pharmacy, and drug reaction management
  • Ability to guide: Maternal and child healthcare, family planning, and immunization

CCH Course Job Opportunities

CCH certificate holders will be equipped to work as: 

  • Health workers in communities, hospitals, nursing homes, and health centers
